The Sikhote-Alin meteorite fell in southeastern Russia in 1947. With fragments totaling about 23 tons, it is the largest observed meteorite fall in recorded history. Witnesses reported that the bright flash as it streaked through the atmosphere was brighter than the sun, and the deafening sound of the fall was heard up to 300 kilometers away.
