One of the most famous types of impactites is Libyan Desert Glass, yellow, gem-like stones formed by a meteorite impact near Egypt and Libya about 26 million years ago. A particularly fine piece of Libyan Desert Glass was used to make a scarab centerpiece for one of Pharaoh Tutankhamun's most ornate pieces of jewelry.
